1.
If you were looking for a sense of relief Well, the baggage says otherwise If you were thinking it might have been too much to ask Well, you might have been right this time And if the pattern always ends the same Don't you think, that you could spare the trouble? And if the frequency's only station is static Don't you think, that you could change the dial? You were reliable Like thrift store furniture You know, I think I should have seen it coming And there's a weight in the words that we say Can't you feel the mark that they left on your shoulders? And everything was turning into a checklist While I was just turning into a means to an end It wasn't anything too specific I think we just ran out of things to say But can you tell me what will happen when the glue is all dried up? And can you tell me what will happen when the yes men bow their heads?
2.
You are Spearmint You're a pool of maroon Cast a shadow on me, cause I like the shade I got caught Funneling days into a one way lane You took a glimpse through the smoke Do you like what you see? So could you build me up? I'm deficient at this point I'm in awe, every second Cause you have what I cannot provide, to myself I wanna know But there's no answer sheet We collided from different directions And we just wait and see I wanna be the best And only for you And if I wanna be the best you know it's only for you So could you tell me all the good things again? Cause when the friction disappeared It was how I remembered.

It's only been four months since Charles Rogers' last release, the excellent Boundary Situations EP, but the confidence and vigor exuded from these new songs from their upcoming split with Stutter finds the band akin to a phoenix reborn. "Sunburn Posture" starts off like a bomb going off with the rest of the duration documenting the ruin it left. The song strikes an impressive balance between harmonious and aggressive, unpredictably jumping from fast, feedback-laden madness to trebly melodies that feel like a rush of blood to the head. It finds a perfect foil in the plodding post-punk rhythm of "The Friction Disappears" - the dual guitar lines and dejected vocals swirl around menacingly, all culminating into a powerful climax in which vocalist Jack Cawthon suddenly yells "I wanna be the best and only for you"; it feels like assessing the aftermath of the explosion, only to find nothing but more desperation. It feels urgent and vital - a feeling that all music like this should emanate.
